From one Genz to another, travelling teaches you something, classrooms and books cannot. I turned 20 a month back, and I have been travelling solo since I turned 18.

Well, not specifically solo, but more like solo in a group of strangers. Is it something which sounds exciting to you? If yes. Then grab your backpacks, take the leap, and start travelling solo today!

Starting to travel solo at the age of 18 can offer numerous benefits.

Ofcourse, one is living like "bunny" from "yeh jawani hai dewani". But there's too much more depth to it! It promotes independence, self-reliance, and decision-making skills. It allows you to step out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and gain a broader perspective on the world. Additionally, solo travel at a young age can foster personal growth, build confidence, and create lifelong memories.

Have you ever tried to make a trip plan with your friends? Ofcourse you have. Did it come to life? I doubt. :p

Often times, friends end up cancelling plans, and you end up rotting in your room, thats not how it should be. The very reason I vouch for solo travel, that too group trips with no other but Wacanza!

Here is why YOU should start solo travel at 18 :

1. Embrace Independence:

At 18, you're at the cusp of adulthood, and embarking on solo travel allows you to fully embrace your newfound independence. You get to make decisions about where to go, what to see, and how to navigate challenges—all on your own terms.

2. Self-Discovery:

Solo travel provides an unparalleled opportunity for self-discovery. Away from familiar surroundings and routines, you'll learn more about yourself—your strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes. This self-awareness lays the foundation for personal growth and development.

3. Build Confidence:

Confronting the unknown and handling situations independently can significantly boost your confidence. Whether it's navigating public transportation in a foreign country or striking up conversations with strangers, each successful encounter reinforces your belief in yourself.

4. Cultural Immersion:

Traveling solo opens doors to authentic cultural experiences. Without the buffer of companions, you're more likely to engage with locals, immerse yourself in their customs, and gain insights into different ways of life. These interactions enrich your understanding of the world and foster empathy and tolerance.

5. Flexibility and Spontaneity:

Solo travel grants you the freedom to be spontaneous. You can change plans on a whim, linger in a place that captivates you, or embark on unplanned adventures. Embracing this flexibility cultivates adaptability and resourcefulness—skills that are invaluable in both travel and life.

6. Challenge Comfort Zones:

Growth happens outside of comfort zones, and solo travel thrusts you into unfamiliar territory. From overcoming language barriers to navigating unfamiliar landscapes, each challenge you encounter expands your comfort zone and equips you with resilience to face future obstacles.

7. Forge Lifelong Memories:

The experiences you gain while traveling solo at 18 are bound to become cherished memories. Whether it's watching a sunrise over ancient ruins, sharing stories with fellow travelers around a campfire, or getting lost in the labyrinthine streets of a bustling city, these moments imprint themselves in your heart and mind, shaping your perspective for years to come.

8. Foster Independence:

Solo travel at 18 fosters independence like no other experience. You learn to rely on yourself, from managing finances and logistics to making split-second decisions. Every challenge you overcome reinforces your ability to navigate the complexities of life with confidence and resilience.

9. Discover Your Passions:

With the freedom to choose your own path, solo travel allows you to explore your interests and passions without compromise. Whether it's diving into local cuisine, indulging in outdoor adventures, or immersing yourself in art and culture, you have the opportunity to tailor your journey to align with your deepest desires.

10. Expand Your Perspective:

Stepping outside your comfort zone and immersing yourself in new environments broadens your perspective in profound ways. As you encounter diverse cultures, traditions, and viewpoints, you gain a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of humanity. This expanded worldview fosters empathy, tolerance, and a greater appreciation for the rich tapestry of human experience.

11. Confront Fears and Overcome Challenges:

Solo travel presents a series of challenges, from navigating unfamiliar terrain to overcoming language barriers and cultural differences. Each obstacle you face becomes an opportunity for growth, pushing you to confront your fears and limitations head-on. As you conquer these challenges, you emerge stronger, more resilient, and empowered to tackle whatever life throws your way.

12. Create Lasting Connections:

While solo travel may begin as a solitary journey, it often leads to meaningful connections with people from all walks of life. Whether it's bonding with fellow travellers over shared experiences, forming friendships with locals who welcome you into their homes, or connecting with kindred spirits halfway across the globe, these connections enrich your travels and leave a lasting imprint on your heart.

In conclusion, embarking on solo travel at the age of 18 is more than just a journey—it's a transformative rite of passage that shapes your character, broadens your horizons, and enriches your life in ways you never imagined possible. It's like, taking the road less travelled by, and never looking back.

So seize the opportunity, pack your bags, and set forth on the adventure of a lifetime. The world awaits, and the lessons it has to teach you are beyond measure.
